Mandatory Attachment Function

The launch of the mandatory attachment function to locate requests was premature and we underestimated the magnitude of the change to the locate process. I apologize for the inconvenience it has caused to your operations. As such, the mandatory attachment function will be disabled by start of business on Monday April 10, 2017 until a comprehensive training program and schedule is rolled out.

The purpose of mandatory attachments is to enhance the integrity of the damage prevention process. When locators are provided with a drawing by the excavator / requestor identifying the location of the dig site, the risk of damage to underground infrastructure is reduced. Last year in Alberta, there were over 4,000 voluntarily reported damages to underground infrastructure with an estimated societal cost of over 300 million dollars.
